Next Generation Artists – Composers in the Classroom

From November 2016 through to March 2017, Chamber Choir Ireland and Contemporary Music Centre will work together on the latest iteration of Composers in the Classroom, an education project bringing established Irish composers into second-level schools throughout the island to coach students in the creative process of composing for choir.  Working with 5 composition coaches, the Chamber Choir and 9 schools who will receive workshop visits from composers and singers, during which time they will compose an original piece for SATB choir.  Working with almost 50 students throughout Ireland, a selection of compositions from each school will be performed by Chamber Choir Ireland in a gala concert in March.

Testament to the success of this programme in the past is its previous participants and now established Irish composers; Andrew Hamilton, Garrett Sholdice,  and Eoghan Desmond (winner of the 2015 Sean O Riada Composition Competition).
