Composers in the Classroom Gala Concert 2022/23

In March 2023, students from schools throughout the island of Ireland joined us at the National Concert Hall to hear their own choral pieces performed for a live audience by Chamber Choir Ireland, in the culmination of this year’s Composers in the Classroom programme.

Participants had been working on their pieces since September 2022 under the mentorship of composers Áine Mallon, Norah Walsh, Irene Buckley, Alyson Barber, and David Coonan. Along the way, they received guidance from the professional singers of Chamber Choir Ireland, with school visits and a workshop-recording session, culminating in this final performance of their pieces.

These spectacularly creative and musical students found inspiration in the words of Emily Dickinson, Langston Hughes, Sun Tzu, and Sapho; as well as in sacred texts, nature, television dialogue, and in their memories of loved ones.

The programme is funded by the Arts Council / An Chomhairle Ealaíon and The Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and is presented in partnership with the Contemporary Music Centre.
