Folks’ Music

Chamber Choir Ireland and Paul Hillier perform two brand new choral commissions on Louth Contemporary Music Society’s latest digital release, Folks’ Music.

Cassandra Miller’s The City, Full of People surrounds the listener with sixteenth century echoes inspired by Tallis’ Lamentations, allowing them to eavesdrop on a ‘cacophony of private secrets.’

Based on the stray envelope writings of Emily Dickinson, Linda Catlin Smith’s Folio finds music in fragments somewhere between thoughts and poetry.

The collection also features Laurence Crane’s extraordinary String Quartet No. 2 performed by Esposito Quartet.

All three pieces were commissioned by Eamonn Quinn of Louth Contemporary Music Society, with funding from the Arts Council/an Chomhairle Ealaíon. The City, Full of People received additional funding from the Robert D. Bielecki Foundation. The recording was funded by the Arts Council/an Chomhairle Ealaíon and Create Louth.
